Early Times Report
Srinagar May 23
Former KAS officer Nayeem Akhtar, has been nominated as Chief spokesman of the main opposition party in Jammu and Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti while making the announcement here today said that Mr Akhtar would also function as the Chairman of the partys media cell.
Mr Akhtar had sought voluntary premature retirement from the Government last year when he was posted as Secretary Tourism.
Coming from the Information cadre, Mr Akhtar after his induction into KAS served in Health Medical Education, PWD, GAD, Finance and Tourism Departments. He was also Secretary to the then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
He was earlier dismissed from the service in early nineties for spearheading a campaign, alongwith four other officers, against the human rights violations in Kashmir. He was reinstated after the 72 days long agitation by the State government employees.
