| AJHLA demands power tariff at par to the industrial status | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, MAY 23 : All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association (AJHLA) has demanded electricity tariff on hotels and lodges to be brought at par with the one charged from the manufacturing industrial units in the state as the state has conferred them the industry status. In a written representation made to the Finance Minister, A R Rather, in a pre budget meeting, the All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association (AJHLA) has stated while tourism trades have been accorded the status of industry, yet incentives available to the manufacturing industrial units have not been extended to the tourism related trades, including hotels, lodges and other trades catering to tourists. However welcoming the extension of tax holiday in respect of service tax chargeable from hotels and lodges, the AJHLA President Inderjeet Khajuria has urged upon the Finance Minister to exempt VAT on food items and eatables served by the restaurants attached with the hotels and lodges. Mr Khajuria also has demanded interest free loans at the rate of Rs 1 lakh per room for renovation and alteration to be effected in hotel rooms to be rented out to the visitors. The AJHLA has stressed upon the Finance Minister to incorporate these proposals in the budget for the remaining part of the current financial year
