Jammu, Jan 24: In commemoration of the historic completion of 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’, the National Song of India, the University of Jammu organized a Mass Singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ at the Suchetgarh Border today as part of Phase-II of the nationwide celebrations being observed across the country from January 19 to January 26, 2026. The programme was organized under the leadership of Prof. Umesh Rai, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu. In his message on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor remarked that ‘Vande Mataram’ occupies a timeless place in India’s freedom movement and continues to inspire generations with the spirit of unity, sacrifice, and national pride. He noted that organizing the event at the Suchetgarh Border carried a profound symbolic significance, reflecting respect for the nation and solidarity with the forces safeguarding its frontiers. Prof. Rai lauded the efforts of the students and faculty for taking the message of patriotism beyond the campus and giving it a collective public expression. The mass singing was rendered by the faculty and students of the Institute of Music and Fine Arts, University of Jammu, with wholehearted support from the Border Security Force. The live performance was rendered by Mamta Kumari, Narinder Kumar, Laksh Dalotra, and Tahyra Shamim, under the guidance of Dr. Jasmeet Kaur. The programme was efficiently coordinated and conducted by Sumeet Sharma. The event was organized under the aegis of the Department of Students Welfare. |
