| 12 schemes worth 21.33 cr approved under FPM: Taj | | | Early Times Report Srinagar May 24- Minister for Irrigation and Flood Control, Mr. Taj Mohi-u-din has asked the Irrigation authorities to take all the necessary measures for improving irrigation facilities for the coming agriculture season, impressing upon them to take up de-silting and remodeling works of all irrigation Khuls. The Minister said this while reviewing the financial and physical achievements of the irrigation sector in an officers meeting. The Meeting was informed that under Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP), eight project have been taken up out of which five will be completed during 2009-10. It was told that out of the total potential target of 43122 hectares, about 28914 hectares stand covered by the ending March this year and expenditure to the tune of Rs.229.57 crore booked. While taking up minor irrigation project for review it was told that under this sector 240 schemes have been taken up which include gravity canals, lift stations, small storage tanks, replacement of old worn out pumps, procurement and renovation of new drought pumps, construction and deepening of wells and tanks, besides, restoration and modernization of sick tanks. The meeting was told that 12 schemes have been approved under NABARD funding at an estimated cost of Rs.21.33 crores under Flood Management Programme (FPM). The schemes are slated to be completed during the 11th five year plan. The meeting besides others was attended by Chief Engineer Irrigation and flood control, Mr. Mir Najeeb Ullah and Director planning, B.R. Lachotra.
