Rohiin Chandan hails historic India-EU FTA as milestone under PM Modi's leadership
1/28/2026 10:28:08 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 28: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) District Jammu South Media Secretary Rohiin Chandan has warmly welcomed the historic conclusion of India's largest-ever Free Trade Agreement (FTA) under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This landmark achievement marks a significant milestone in India's trade and economic growth trajectory, reflecting the country's expanding influence in global economic partnerships.
Chandan emphasized that the signing of this monumental FTA with the 27 nations of the European Union is not only a strategic economic move but also a symbolically happy and timely coincidence. This agreement will open new avenues for trade, enhance bilateral relations, and foster deeper cooperation between India and the EU member states. Under the visionary guidance of the BJP-led government, India has been making remarkable progress on multiple fronts-economic, diplomatic, and technological. The FTA represents a major leap forward in India's commitment to integrating with the global economy and positioning itself as a key player in international trade. It is expected to boost exports, create jobs, and attract greater foreign investment, thereby accelerating India's growth story. He emphasized that the India-EU FTA, negotiated over several years and finalized in late 2025, eliminates tariffs on over 90% of goods traded between the two sides, potentially boosting bilateral trade from the current $120 billion to over $200 billion annually within five years. For Jammu and Kashmir, this agreement holds special promise. Chandan pointed out that the region's world-renowned handicrafts, dry fruits, saffron, and basmati rice will gain tariff-free access to vast European markets, empowering local artisans and farmers, he remarked.
Rohiin Chandan highlighted that this agreement underscores the Modi government's focus on economic reforms and global outreach. By eliminating trade barriers, simplifying customs procedures, and harmonizing standards, the FTA will facilitate smoother and more efficient trade flows. This, in turn, will benefit Indian industries, farmers, and consumers alike by providing access to a wider range of goods, services, and technologies.
Moreover, the agreement is anticipated to strengthen India's strategic ties with Europe, fostering collaboration in areas such as innovation, sustainability, and the digital economy. It reflects a shared vision of inclusive growth and sustainable development, aligning with India's ambitions on the world stage.
Chandan reiterated that the BJP's leadership has been instrumental in transforming India's economic landscape and enhancing its global stature. The successful conclusion of this FTA is a testament to the government's proactive diplomacy and commitment to creating an enabling environment for trade and investment.
