Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 28: Jammu (Rural) Police, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Nagrota, busted an organised gambling racket operating from Sunshine Hotel in the Sidhra area. Acting on reliable information, a police team led by PSI Neeraj Parihar, ICPP Sidhra, conducted a raid at Room No. 105 of Hotel Sunshine, Sidhra, where illegal gambling activities were being carried out for monetary gains. During the raid, six persons along with one hotel worker were found actively indulging in gambling. The accused have been identified as:- Zulfkar Rashid Malik, S/o Abdul Rashid Malik, R/o Gujjar Nagar, Jammu. Manzoor Ahmed, S/o Ghulam Nabi, R/o Bijbehara, District Anantnag. Bilal Ahmed, S/o Ghulam Rasool, R/o Shallabagh, Ganderbal, A/P Lower Thather, Bantalab, Jammu. Abdul Majeed Lone, S/o Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din, R/o Sogam, Kupwara. Ashiq Hussain Bhat, S/oGhulam Nabi Bhat, R/oParimpora, Qamarwari, Srinagar. The hotel worker facilitating the gambling activity has been identified as:- Naseer Ahmed, S/o Ghulam Ramat Sofi, R/o Sherpora, Baramulla. During the search operation, stake money amounting to ?34,950, along with playing cards, chips, and other gambling-related articles, were recovered and seized on the spot in accordance with law. Preliminary enquiry revealed that the accused persons, in connivance with the hotel worker, were deliberately facilitating organised gambling activities with the common intention of making wrongful gain, thereby committing petty organised crime. The acts of the accused prima facie constitute offences punishable under Section 112(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Accordingly, a formal case FIR No. 21/2026 under Section 112(2) BNS has been registered at Police Station Nagrota. All accused persons have been arrested, and further investigation is underway. |
