Balwant Thakur meets Union Minister for Tourism & Culture, commends landmark cultural initiatives

NEW DELHI, Jan 28: Eminent theatre director, Padma Shri awardee, and former Cultural Diplomat of India, Shri Balwant Thakur, called on the Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, at his official residence in New Delhi today. During the meeting, Shri Thakur warmly congratulated the Hon'ble Minister on the historic and visionary achievements of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, particularly its transformative efforts in revitalising India's cultural heritage through large-scale public engagement and artistic excellence.
Shri Thakur recently witnessed the grand cultural spectacle "Vande Mataram - The Eternal Resonance of Bharat" at Kartavya Path-an extraordinary presentation featuring over 2,500 artists from across the country. Conceived as a living expression of India's civilisational ethos, artistic plurality, and national spirit, the production left a profound impact on audiences and cultural practitioners alike. He also lauded the Ministry of Culture's Republic Day tableau, "Swatantrata Ka Mantra: Vande Mataram," which emerged as one of the most compelling presentations of the parade, seamlessly integrating tradition, innovation, and national pride.
Shri Thakur further congratulated the Hon'ble Minister for successfully hosting the world's largest international theatre festival in India through the National School of Drama, describing it as a landmark moment for Indian theatre and global cultural exchange.
An internationally acclaimed theatre visionary, conceptualiser, designer, and director, Shri Balwant Thakur shared his creative reflections and professional insights with the Hon'ble Minister. He particularly appreciated the Ministry's unwavering commitment to artistic integrity, the ambitious scale of execution, and the inclusive representation of India's diverse cultural traditions.
He commended the exemplary coordination and excellence demonstrated by the Department of Culture in transforming heritage narratives into immersive, world-class public cultural experiences.
