| BGSB University’s biodiversity studies concern over forest fire | | | Early times report Jammu, May 24 The teaching staff of biodiversity studies of Baba Ghulam Shah Badhsah University (BGSB) have expressed their great anguish over the frequent fires observed in the forest of Jammu division. In an interaction meet organized in celebrating the ‘International Biodiversity Day’ director SFRI, R.D Tiwari delivered a lecture on carbon sequestration and carbon trading vis-à-vis biodiversity. The visitors who attend the function were taken round the plant nurseries. Demonstration plots and field gene banks being developed in the Pir Panjal biodiversity park of the of the CBS. They appreciated the efforts towards conservation of bio-wealth and eco-restoration of the degraded ecosystems Tiwari expressed happiness about the reforestation initiatives taken by the centre by planting over a lakh sapling of native and multipurpose tree species on the campus. He expressed the hope that the centre will intensify its activity towards conservation of endangered, endemic and economically important plant and animal species following recognition of the Pir Panjal Biodiversity park as the lead botanical garden for the North western phytogeographic region by the ministry of environment and forests, Glovt. of India. During the interaction the scholars and scientific staff of the CBS expressed the urgency to control forest fires before they cause irreparable loss to bio-wealth of the region.
