Early Times Report
CHANDIGARH, Feb 2: Start-Up Cell and Viksit Bharat Abhiyan Committee of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, in collaboration with the Postgraduate Department of Commerce and under the aegis of Institution's Innovation Council (IIC), organised an educational visit to Mehr Baba Charitable Trust (MBCT), Bassi Pathana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab.
The visit envisioned to offer students experiential learning through firsthand exposure to grassroots entrepreneurship, social innovation, and women-led sustainable livelihood initiatives. During the interaction, students engaged with women artisans trained in diverse market-oriented skills such as garment making, phulkari craft, machine embroidery, aari and zardozi embroidery, and rug making. They gained firsthand knowledge of the production processes and valuable insights into the transformation of traditional crafts into viable income-generating enterprises. The visit also underscored the significance of social entrepreneurship in promoting inclusive growth, women empowerment, and rural development, sensitising students to community-centric development models.
Appreciating the initiative, Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma remarked that such educational visits play a crucial role in bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world practices. She lauded the efforts of the organising committees for facilitating meaningful exposure that fosters social responsibility, entrepreneurial thinking, and a holistic understanding of sustainable development.
