Earluy Times Report
Jammu, May 24,: With new government assuming office in New Delhi, the coalition government headed by Omar Abdullah has set all its eyes on the proposed meeting between the officials of the planning commission and the union finance ministry to get clearnace for their annual budget proposals to kickstart developmental works.
Soon after the NC-Congress government assumed charge the model code of conduct was announced and the most important job of allocation of budgetary support to various ministires was put on hold till the formation of new union government.
Highly placed official sources revealed that a high level meeting between the state finance minister and the union finance minister would be arranged soon to finalise the details of the budget 2009.
Lakhs of state government employees are already anxiously awaiting annoucement of budget proposals while hoping to receive hiked salaries as per the sixth pay commission recommendations. The state government had agreeed in principle to release the employees salaries after receiving annual budgetary support from the union government.
It may be mentioned that during the previous round of meetings between the planning commission and the state finance department a proposal for sanctioning Rs 6500 crore budget was mooted but an assurance was given to the state government that after holding detailed meetings the final annual plan budget would be approved for the year 2009.
In the absence of the full fledged budget the state government was running the affair on the basis of vote on account to avoid procedural delays in the implementation of various developmental works already sanctioned by the government.
