Early Times Report HIRANAGAR, Feb 4: The Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) in collaboration with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan of Government GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar, successfully organized an enriching lecture on handicrafts in collaboration with expert faculty members from SBI Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI), Kathua. The awareness program aimed to promote traditional craftsmanship, skill development, and self-employment opportunities among students. The resource persons, Mr. Avinash and Mr. Ashok from SBI RSETI Kathua, inspired students to learn various handicraft techniques and encouraging participants to explore creativity while understanding the economic potential of handmade products. Adding inspiration to the session, Ms. Sonia and Ms. Bandana, members of Self-Help Group, shared their success stories and motivated students to participate in such skill-based trainings for income generation and self-reliance. Their real-life experiences encouraged students to view handicrafts not only as an art form but also as a viable source of livelihood. During the session, students learned about locally relevant craft practices, the importance of preserving traditional art forms, and how such skills can be transformed into entrepreneurial ventures. The trainers also shared insights into starting small-scale handicraft businesses, marketing strategies, and government support schemes available for artisans. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Pragya Khanna, the Principal of Government GLDM Degree College appreciated the collaboration and emphasized the role of skill-based education in empowering youth. She highlighted the importance of self-reliance and encouraged students to utilize their creativity for sustainable livelihoods. The proceedings of the program were conducted by Prof. Neeru Sharma, Innovation activity coordinator of IIC, who ensured the smooth flow of the event. The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Anupma Arora, President, IIC GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar, who expressed gratitude to the resource persons, organizers, and participants for making the workshop a success. The initiative reflects IIC's continuous efforts to foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and practical skill development among students. The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members.
