Jammu, Feb 7: Satish Sharma, Cabinet Minister for J&K, reiterated that Child Protection, Digital Education and Sports are the J&K Government’s top priorities. He was speaking at a training programme on psychosocial support and child safeguarding, organised by the National Development Foundation and the school education department, with support from the HDFC Bank Parivartan programme, anchored by Bharat Cares. The minister said that the mental health and physical fitness of children, adolescents and youth are the government’s priority and added that the government has taken many initiatives in this regard. Our Constitution guarantees equal rights to children, and every child has the right to good health and a safe, nurturing environment in which to grow and lead a dignified life. The minister commended the role of the National Development Foundation, HDFC Bank and Bharat Cares in supporting schools in the border area with smart classrooms and sports equipment. I found that NDF has been working on child rights, education and youth development for more than 30 years, and the J&K Govt has extended full support to their future activities, the minister added. On the occasion, smart board panels and sports equipment were distributed to the Govt HR Sec School, Dhakhar; Govt High School, Jogwan; Govt High School, Seri Palai; and Govt Middle School, Bardoh. Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion were Sh. Rajiv Kumar Khajuria, a noted child rights strategist, civil society leader & honorary patron of the National Development Foundation, CEO Jammu Ajeet Sharma, DEPO B. D. Sharma and Principal HSS Dhakhar Sunder Bala Sharma. A large number of members of school management committees, parents and students attended the programme. Rajiv Khajuria spoke at length on child rights and school safety and security, while Ajeet Sharma, CEO Jammu, who was the main resource person, covered mental health, psychosocial support and child safeguarding in schools. |
