IIM Jammu launches the Trekking-Based Leadership Skills MDP

Jammu, Feb 10: 10th Feb 2026, Jammu: The Indian Institute of Management Jammu inaugurated the Leadership Skills for Managers – Trekking-based Management Development Programme (MDP) for managers of NTPC, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) of India, in the Lower Himalayas on 10th February 2026. The programme was formally launched at the Vedanta MDP Block with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, marking the beginning of a distinctive experiential learning journey set against the serene Himalayan landscape. The programme uniquely integrates trekking-based experiential learning with structured leadership and managerial training, creating an immersive and reflective environment aimed at strengthening leadership capabilities, resilience, teamwork, and strategic thinking among participants. The training programme comprises 36 participants from different parts of the country.
The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean, Faculty and Research, IIM Jammu; along with Prof. Sanjeev Pathak, Chairperson, Executive Education and Consultancy, IIM Jammu. Prof. Ravij Seth, Program Director, IIM Jammu; and Dr. Vinod Durge, Programme Director graced the momentous occasion.
Addressing the participants, Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean, Faculty and Research, IIM Jammu appreciated the innovative design of the programme, highlighting how the integration of trekking with classroom learning and interaction with young minds enriches the overall learning experience. He acknowledged the visionary approach of the Director, IIM Jammu, and emphasized that such programmes provide valuable insights for technical professionals. He encouraged participants to make the most of the opportunity, enjoy the one-week learning experience, and embrace the spirit of student life.
In his address, Prof. Sanjeev Pathak, Chairperson, Executive Education and Consultancy, IIM Jammu welcomed the participants and shared insights into the vision and scope of Executive Education and Consultancy at IIM Jammu. He noted that the participants were a selected group and emphasized that the programme is meticulously designed to enhance strategic thinking and managerial perspective. Highlighting IIM Jammu’s focus on quality and industry collaboration, he referred to engagements with prestigious organizations such as SAIL and NHPC, encouraging participants to collaborate, network, and learn from peers across different regions.
Dr. Vinod Durge, Program Director, IIM Jammu provided an overview of the program, outlining the structure and objectives of the sessions planned during the MDP. He also briefly shared his professional profile and experience and wished the participants a fruitful and enriching learning journey.
The programme also witnessed participants introducing themselves and sharing their expectations from the MDP. The session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Ravij Seth, Program Director, IIM Jammu. The participants were also provided with a guided tour of the Institute’s campus.
The training programme is being coordinated by the Executive Education and Consultancy, Indian Institute of Management Jammu, reaffirming the Institute’s commitment to innovative, experiential, and industry-relevant executive learning.
