| Dy CM convenes 70th Board Meeting of SDA | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR May 26 - Explore possibilities to develop new projects on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode to address the growing demands of housing and other urban related requirements of Srinagar city, said Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Tara Chand while chairing 70th Board meeting of Srinagar Development Authority(SDA) here today. The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Mr. Masood Samoon, Commissioner Secretary Housing & Urban Development Mrs. Naseema Lankar, Vice Chairman, SDA, Mr. Baseer Khan, Commissioner Municipality, Mr. Farooq A. Renzu, Chief Architect Kashmir, Chief Town Planner Kashmir and senior officers from Finance and Planning department. The Deputy Chief Minister stressed for devising a mechanism so as to cater to the needs of the growing urban population besides ensuring better land use efficiency. He said that SDA should develop multi storey flats so that maximum population is accommodated in lesser space and land is efficiently utilised. The Board decided to develop new multi storey housing flats in Bemina on PPP mode, so that the project becomes viable and public gets the needed facilities at affordable rates. The meeting was informed that construction of Phase - I of Sangarmal Shopping Plaza has been completed at a cost of Rs. 16.14 crores and the plaza would be ready for use shortly. The facilities in the plaza are best of its kind in the state and it would further add to the attraction of Srinagar city. The meeting was apprised of other commercial sites developed by SDA like Yemberzal Mall at Lal Chowk at a cost of Rs 3.80 crores and Doodhganga Shopping Plaza at Batmaloo at a cost of Rs 6.22 crores. Tara Chand called upon the concerned to rely on utilising in-house capabilities for development of upcoming projects as the resource person of the organisation are well acquainted with the local needs and demands. He said that in house town planning department of SDA should work in close liaison with the office of Chief Architect Kashmir for ascertaining the local dimensions of the new SDA projects. The Deputy Chief Minister said for proper land management in Srinagar city and for smooth transfer of Nazool land to the SDA a committee headed by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir will sort out the issues among the concerned stake holders. It was decided that the committee will comprise of Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Assistant Commissioner Nazool and would review the progress on weekly basis. The Chairman asked the SDA authorities to strictly monitor the land use pattern in the city as the authority is the sole developer of land in the city limits of Srinagar and no government department should be allowed to directly sell the allotted land to private developers.
