Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 13: Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu & Kashmir organized a comprehensive medical check-up cum menstrual hygiene awareness camp at Government High School, Bhour Camp, Jammu for the students, teaching staff, and residents of the surrounding area under the supervision of Rohit Khajuria, General Secretary, IRCS-J&K, UT. The camp was conducted with the objective of spreading health awareness, providing basic medical facilities, and addressing the critical issue of menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls and women. The initiative witnessed active participation from students, school staff, and members of the local community, reflecting the growing awareness and acceptance of health and hygiene education. During the camp, a dedicated medical team comprising Dr. Manpreet Kour, Medical Officer, Joginder Kumar, Pharmacist, and Balbir Singh, Supervisor Lab Technician, carried out general medical examinations. The team screened beneficiaries for common health issues, conducted basic diagnostic evaluations, and provided health counselling. A total of 80 beneficiaries were examined and provided with appropriate medical advice and necessary treatment. The medical team also guided participants on preventive healthcare measures, balanced nutrition, personal hygiene, and the importance of timely medical consultation. A major highlight of the camp was the menstrual hygiene awareness session conducted for adolescent girls and women. The participants were sensitized about the physiological aspects of menstruation, myths and misconceptions related to menstrual health, safe and hygienic menstrual practices, and methods to prevent infections and reproductive health issues. The session encouraged open interaction, allowing participants to clarify doubts and gain confidence in managing menstrual health safely and hygienically. To further support menstrual hygiene management, free sanitary napkins were distributed among the beneficiaries. The distribution aimed to promote the use of safe and hygienic menstrual products, especially among girls and women belonging to economically weaker sections, thereby helping reduce health risks and school absenteeism among adolescent girls. The entire camp was efficiently organized by Vironica Marwah, Field Officer, who ensured smooth coordination of medical services, awareness sessions and distribution activities. The school administration and local residents appreciated the efforts of IRCS J&K and expressed gratitude for organizing such a meaningful and impactful initiative. The camp successfully created awareness about healthcare and menstrual hygiene while ensuring access to essential medical services for the underserved population. Through such initiatives, IRCS J&K continues to reaffirm its commitment towards community service, public health promotion, and improving the overall well-being of vulnerable sections of society. |
