| Farmers allege poor supply of DAP fertilizers | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, May 26- Despite its tall claims, the department of Agriculture has failed to provide the adequate quantity of fertilizers, particularly DAP to the farming community of Jammu region. While expressing concern over the step motherly treatment being meted out to farmers of the region, farmers are demanding action against the officials for diverting their share to Kashmir for some political interests. About 14000-16000 metric tones of DAP has allegedly been shifted to Kashmir while the farmers in Jammu are forced to purchase from the open market as only 200 to 300 tones of DAP has been received by the Jammu based farmers so far. “DAP is very essential for the growth of the crops and it keeps the land under normal temperature” says Kala Ram of R S Pura, adding that the sufficient quantity of DAP is always required by the farmers but they never receive it in time. He said that farmers are being blackmailed on the name of better facilities by the politicians and when the elections are over they never turn to their villages. “We never feel any respite in supply of the fertilizers instead we also face shortage round the year”, Anmol Singh Rattan said adding the farmers are already suffering due to the poor water supply for their irrigating land and the poor seeds and fertilizers added more tensions to them. The fertilizers meant for distribution among the farmers is black marketed and the supply allegedly goes to particular persons under the political cover, alleged a farmer wishing not to be named
