EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, May 27 : Demanding basic amenities for the pilgrims visiting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, the Bhartiya Janata Party MLA from Reasi district today said 20 lakh gallons of water is the per day requirement in Katra town. ''The amount of water required for the floating population of over 1 crore in Katra town is 20 lakh gallons per day but presently only 3.5 lakh gallons are being supplied,'' Baldev Raj Sharma, BJP MLA from Reasi told reporters at a press conference here this morning.

The MLA said he had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah elaborating on a number of issues and sought his personal interference for their solution at the earliest.

''The state and the Central Government have found a permanent solution by taking the initiative of starting the Dhansar Project at a cost of 73 crore, which is due to start by the end of this year,'' the BJP leader added.

The Chief Minister, however, has agreed to release the required funds of 127.82 lakhs out of his discretionary reserves for the town of Katra, he added.
