| Steps to strengthen Gujjar community on anvil: Altaf | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, May 27 – Minister for Forests and Environment Mian Altaf today said the government is initiating several steps for the social and economic upliftment of Gujjar community. He described the community as an integral part of the rich social mosaic of the state and said special attention is being paid by the government to improve their education profile. Chairing Gujjar meeting of State Academy here today Mr. Altaf said that the Gujjar and Bakarwal Advisory Board established for the welfare of the community will be given more powers for furthering the development of the community. He said appropriate measures need to be taken to preserve Gojri language and culture. He said though incentives like Boys and Girls hostels, Pre-matric scholarships etc are in place but a more focussed attention is needed. Mr. Altaf said that government intends to spend Rs 12 lakh on the promotion of Gojri language to develop the language on the lines of Kashmiri and Dogri. Mr. Zaffar Iqbal Manahas, Secretary Cultural Academy, Head of Gojri wing of State Academy, Dr. Javid Rahie and other officers were present in the meeting
