EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, May 27: Rich tributes were paid to the first Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawahar lal Nehru on his 45th death anniversary by the Congress party in the state. The main function was held at PCC HQ. here which was organized by the district Congress Committee Urban Jammu under the chairmanship of DCC president and ex-MLA Om Chopra. Senior leaders and functionaries of Pradesh Congress Committee, District Congress Committee, Block Presidents, Ward Presidents, Representatives of Mahila Congress, INTUC, Youth Congress, Seva Dal and NSUI attended the function and paid floral tributes to the architect of Modern India. Prominent Congress leaders who paid tributes included former Deputy Chief Minister Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma, Yash Paul Khajuria, S. Gurmukh Singh, S. Parduman Singh, Ravinder Sharma- MLC, S. Amolak Singh, Bharat Gandhi, Farida Mir, Krishan Lal Gupta, Chuni Lal Bhat, D.S. Langeh, B.B. Gupta, S. Kirtan Singh, Lalita Sharma- Corporator, Raj Bakshi, Padmani Langeh, Jugal Kishore Sharma, INTUC, Pawan Raina- Sr. Vice President PYC, Amit Chib, Madan Lal Malagar, V.K. Sethi, Mansa Ram, Jagan Nath, Suresh Bargotra, Vijayinder, Harminder Singh Mehta, J.L. Kaul, Pawan Dev Singh, Rajinder Kumar, Sukh Dev Singh. Speaking on the occasion Om Chopra described late Nehru as a great visionary leader who laid the foundation of Modern India. He took over the reigns of the country when there was acute poverty and numerous challenges from various fronts. Because of his able and farsightedness, the country marched ahead in all fields and emerged as one of the strong nations in the world. He asked party men to follow the ideals of Pt. Nehru and strengthen the Congress party and its principles as a true tributes to him. Mangat Ram described Pt. Nehru as one of the tallest leaders in the World whose policy of Non Aliened Movement (NAM) was the need of the hour at the time and it gave direction to a new World order in which India played a leading role for peace in the world.
