Agrometeorology Section, organized "Farmer awareness cum distribution programme"

JAMMU, Feb 19: Agrometeorology Section, SKUAST-J under the aegis of Dr. B.N.Tripathi, Hon?ble Vice Chancellor and with the guidance of Prof. S.K. Gupta, Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu organized one day Farmer awareness cum distribution programme on the topic of "Diversification in Agriculture for mitigation of adverse climate change" at village Talhar, Block-Suchetgarh, Tehsil-R.S.Pura, District-Jammu on 19th February, 2026. In this programme more than 200 farmers (males and females) participated. The main objective of this programme was to mitigate the adverse effect of climate change by diversification in agriculture and also improve the socio-economic status of the small and marginal farmers of SCs and STs community by planting fruit plants to the for raising vegetable crops.
The programme was preceded by Dr. Mahender Singh, Chief Scientist and organizer of the event, who welcomed the gathering and discussed about increase in the temperature and its effect on rabi crops and also brief to develop human resource through specifically providing adequate agricultural practices to the farmers of international border area. He also emphasized the use of weather and climate based agro-advisories in day to day agricultural activities and stressed upon the farmers to make more and more utilization in order to save the input cost of various crops by adopting forecasting rendered by Agrometeorology Section, SKUAST-J, Chatha. Prof. Mahital Jamwal, Assocoiate Director Research and Chief Guest of the function highlighted the various activities undertaken by the University under Holistic Agriculture Development Plan of the state government for the welfare of the farmers for boosting their income throughthe agriculture enterprises. He motivated the farmers to follow new scientific cultivation techniques for better productivity and profitability through the Horticulture & vegetable crops amid changing climatic conditions.
Dr. Bodu Ram Bazaya, Chief Scientist, Weed Management addressed to the farmers about effective weed management practices in rabi crops without harshening the quality of soil and crops. He stressed the farmers for applying optimum dose and timely application of weedicides for getting maximum benefits to achieve economic and ecological goals with the least efforts.
Dr. Rohit Sharma, Technical Officer (Agromet), AMFU, Rajouri highlighted the importance of Agromet Advisory services in day today agriculture activities. He motivated the farmers to make maximum use of Meghdoot, Mausam and Damini mobile apps for timely and effective use of AABs.
Dr. Veena Sharma, Technical Officer gave detailed information on the use of weather based agro-advisories in various agriculture operations and stressed upon the farmers to make more and more utilization of services rendered by Agrometerology Section, SKUAST - Jammu.
