| Railways refunds Rs. 26 lakh in last 2 days | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, May 27- Disruption of rail services between Jammu and other parts of the country costed Northern railways dearly. On one hand the rail bogies bore the brunt of agitated protestors who went on destroying and torching railway property at several places and on the other hand railway had to refund hefty amount of Rs 26.6 lakh to more than 7600 railway passengers who opted for refund. According to available data, on May 25 when railway authorities cancelled train services between Jammu and other parts of the country as many as 3681 passengers opted for refund of tickets and railways had to shell out Rs 14 ,49 013 immediately to facilitate their onward journey through some other modes of travel. On Tuesday, when railway restored partial rail traffic railway authorities refunded Rs 1,90,504 to 454 passengers at Jammu railway station. The situation at two other railway stations in Udhampur and Katra was no different. In the last two days railway booking centre at Katra refunded Rs 1, 37,220 on May 25 and Rs 86, 861 on May 26 to 356 and 180 passengers respectively. At Udhampur railway authorities refunded Rs 56218 and Rs 43328 to 250 and 102 passengers between Monday and Tuesday respectively. Divisional Traffic Manager Ashok Sharma maintained that all those passengers who opted for refund were entertained and the entire ticket amount was refunded to them on the spot.
