| "PGI organised lecture on Advances in cell culture- transitioning from 2D to 3 D" | | | Early Times Report CHANDIGARH, Feb 20: Department of Experimental Medicine and Biotechnology at PGIMER, Chandigarh successfully organized an insightful Industry Lecture on 20.02.2026, featuring esteemed expert Dr Ankur Gautam, Application scientist and product manager at Merck, Chandigarh. The lecture was held as part of the DBT's curriculum to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry-relevant skills. The session was centred around the theme of covering the translational gap in drug discovery pipelines through advances in cell culture- by transitioning from 2D cell culture system to 3D organoids. He emphasised on the patient derived organoids (PDOs) as true mimic for drug response and more realistic approach for drug discovery pipelines. He highlighted that use of 3D organoids may decrease the ?50% failure of clinical drug trials "valley of death" in comparison to conventional 2D cell culture-based safety screenings. He also described about the modern day equipments that make benchwork more efficient and less laborious. On a conclusive note, *HOD, Dr Dibyajyoti Banerjee*, highlighted that industrial and academia networking as a vital pillar for future job scopes. The Department of Experimental Medicine extends its gratitude to Dr Ankur Gautam for his thought-provoking lecture. |
