| 147 buildings constructed under SSA in Samba | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Samba, May 27- District Development Commissioner, Samba, Saurabh Bhagat today underscored the need to evolve an innovative and result oriented mechanism to yield tangible results of various schemes while reviewing the status of implementation of mid-day meal and Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) schemes in the district. He emphasized upon the concerned agencies to gear up their men and machinery for expediting execution work on various buildings taken up under these schemes to ensure their timely completion. Speaking at a meeting convened to review the progress, DDC asked the CEO and ZEO to prepare perspective plans taking into account the deficiencies and gaps to be filled on need basis for accommodating in the plan proposals in a phased manner. During the meet, it was apprised that under SSA, 192 school buildings were undertaken for construction, of which, 147 buildings have been completed so far. Besides, 64 additional classrooms have been constructed in the district apart from establishing eight cluster resource and two block resource centres under the program. On implementation of midday meal scheme in the district, CEO apprised the meeting that Rs.19 lakh were expended on construction of 113 kitchen sheds and 17650 students were covered under the scheme during 2008-09. Bhagat exhorted upon the ZEOs to furnish the details of schools without toilet facilities so that they could be provided with the same under Total Sanitation Campaign. He also suggested a proposal to construct a sanitation complex in the high and higher secondary schools of the district. The DDC also took strong notice of poor performance of District Youth Service and Sports Officer/Zonal Sports Officer in the district and ordered necessary action against these officers.
