Early Times Report
CHANDIGARH, Feb 24: Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chandigarh Administrator's Advisory Council (AAC) on law and order, Satnam Singh Sandhu today announced a grant of Rs 15 lakh from his MPLADS fund for the repair and waterproofing of the roof of the Lawyer Chamber Complex at District Court Complex, Chandigarh.
This was after MP Satnam Singh Sandhu visited the District Bar Association (DBA) Chandigarh today and held detailed discussions with the office bearers and members of the Bar Association. During the visit, MP Sandhu was warmly welcomed by the members of the Bar Association including DBA President Adv Ashok Chauhan, Vice-President Adv. Sandeep Gujjar, Secretary Adv. Amish Sharma, Treasurer Adv Ujjval Bhasin and Joint Secretary, Adv Pooja Diwan.
During the visit, the Bar members apprised the Rajya Sabha Member Satnam Singh Sandhu about various issues and the Executive Committee of the District Bar Association also submitted a memorandum regarding the repair and waterproofing of the roof of the Lawyer Chamber Complex.
Addressing the members of the District Bar Association, MP Satnam Singh Sandhu said, "Every profession has become highly commercialized these days. But providing justice to the poor is true humanity and it is our social responsibility. This is the service you are performing by providing affordable access to justice. Lawyers are backbone of the justice system and should get all basic amenities at your workplace on priority. I assure you that this work will be completed on a priority basis. I am providing an amount of Rs 15 lakh for this work and it will be released through the due process so that the roof repair and waterproofing work can be completed expeditiously,".
Pointing to population growth in and around Chandigarh, Sandhu said, "About 25 lakh people are living in Chandigarh and adjoining area of Mohali and Panchkula. So today, we face traffic and parking problems in Chandigarh because the city has expanded significantly. A master plan for the development of our city should be developed to address traffic management, parking, and health infrastructure. Most importantly, the District Bar Association and the Punjab and Haryana High Court also face significant chamber shortages, parking, and traffic problems. I have raised this issue in Parliament. However, I believe we should plan for the number of chambers we will need in the next 40-50 years, based on the number of professional lawyers we will have so that future lawyers won't face any problem,".
