JAMMU, Feb 24: The Jammu Provincial Unit of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference today paid glowing floral tributes to its party stalwart and former General Secretary, Late Sheikh Nazir Ahmad, on his 11th death anniversary at a massively attended commemorative function held at the party's provincial headquarters, Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan.
The function was chaired by Provincial President Rattan Lal Gupta and witnessed the presence of senior party leaders, including Additional General Secretary Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, Sheikh Bashir Ahmad Provincial Secretary Jammu, Bimla Luthra former MLA, Qazi Jalal Ud Din former MLA, Deepinder Kour former MLC, Satwant Kour Dogra Provincial President Women Wing Jammu, Abdul Gani Teli Chairman OBC Cell, Nar Singh President Labour Wing, Vikram Puri Chairman Trade and Industry, Chander Mohan Sharma District President Jammu Urban, Subash Chander Bhagat District President Jammu Rural "A", Naresh Bittu District President Jammu Rural "B" and Sudagar Gupta District President Samba along with office bearers and a large number of party workers who gathered to remember the life and contributions of the departed leader.
Speaking on the occasion, Sadhotra recalled the late leader's immense contribution to strengthening the organisation during challenging times and maintaining its grassroots character. "Sheikh Nazir Ahmad's life was marked by discipline, sacrifice and selfless service. In spite of several opportunities to occupy influential positions, he chose to remain a committed soldier of the party. His focus was always on organisational strength and the welfare of the common people,"Sadhotra said.
Addressing the gathering, Gupta described Sheikh Nazir Ahmad as a symbol of integrity, humility and unwavering dedication to the party and the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said, "Late Sheikh Nazir Ahmad embodied the highest ideals of public life. Despite many offers and opportunities to assume positions of power, he never sought any office for personal advancement. He remained steadfastly dedicated to the party and to public service throughout his political journey." He further added that Nazir Sahib firmly believed that politics was a medium of service and not a means to acquire authority, and that his simplicity, honesty and deep connection with grassroots workers would continue to inspire generations of National Conference cadres.
Other speakers on the occasion also observed that Sheikh Nazir Ahmad's legacy of loyalty, dedication and principled politics continues to guide the party, and they reaffirmed their resolve to uphold the ideals and values cherished by the late leader.
Quran Khawani, was performed as per programme at Sher-e- Kashmir Bhavan, Jammu by G.H Malik Senior National Conference leader.
The programme concluded with floral tributes and a pledge by party leaders and workers to carry forward his mission in letter and spirit.
