Empower panchayats before elections: JKPP

Jammu, May 28: “The Jammu Kashmir Panchayat Parishad (JKPP) an affiliated body of state unit of all India panchayat parishad-Delhi has urged upon the govt. in a meeting to consider the implementation of 73rd & 74th constitution amendment act in the state as has been passed in parliament in 1984.
The panchayati raj institutions (PRI’s) are the basic units of democracy. These units must be strengthened to become more effective in the process of natural growth and development of rural areas.
He said chief minister Omar Abdullah has recently announced to hold panchayat elections soon and as such the implementation of amendments shall make the elections more purposeful and at PAR with other states. Nirtanjan Singh, Sankit Mahajan, Pankaj Bala, Sonia Dutta, G.D. Sharma, Abrar Khan and Parmod Khajuria attended the meeting.
