GDC celebrates National Science Day with documentary screening

Jammu, Feb 28: Government Degree College celebrated National Science Day on 28th February 2026 with great enthusiasm and academic fervour. The programme was organized by the Department of Computer Science under the able guidance of the Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Meeru Abrol.
On the occasion, a documentary on the life and scientific contributions of C. V. Raman was screened for the students and faculty members. The screening highlighted his groundbreaking discovery of the Raman Effect and his immense contribution to the field of Physics, inspiring students to cultivate a scientific temperament and research-oriented approach.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Mr. Darpan Malhotra, Head of the Department of Computer Science, who emphasized the significance of National Science Day and the importance of nurturing innovation and critical thinking among students.
Faculty members Dr. Shakeeb Manzer and Dr. Susheel Kumar were also present on the occasion and appreciated the initiative taken by the department to commemorate the day in a meaningful manner.
The event concluded with an interactive session where students reflected on the documentary and discussed the relevance of scientific inquiry in contemporary times. The celebration served as a reminder of India’s rich scientific heritage and the need to promote science education for national development.
