Shiv Sena (UBT) demands statehood, rights for J&K
2/28/2026 10:34:03 PM
Early Times Report

Mumbai/Jammu, Feb 28: The Shiv Sena (UBT) has geared up to highlight the burning issues of Jammu and Kashmir and the aspirations of the people there at the national level. In this regard, State President Manish Sahni met with the party’s National Secretary and MP Anil Desai at the Shiv Sena Bhavan in Mumbai and submitted a detailed memorandum of demands.
Sahni said, “The people of Jammu and Kashmir are today struggling for their identity and justice. The time has come for decisive intervention against the central government’s breach of promise.” Manish Sahni demanded the immediate restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s status as a “full state” and the protection of the rights of only local “sons of the soil” to state land and government jobs under Article 371. He urged the immediate restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s legislative assembly seats to 50 through delimitation to end the decades-long political discrimination against the Jammu region, and the declaration of Jammu as its permanent capital. He also urged the safe and dignified return of Kashmiri Pandits to the Valley and the immediate fulfillment of the long-pending demands of the displaced persons from PoJK. He urged the government to raise its voice nationally, both in Parliament and on the streets, and to revive local democracy by holding elections for the collapsed three-tier Panchayati Raj system (municipal bodies, Panchayats, and DDCs) in the state. Manish Sahni stated that MP Anil Desai, while accepting the memorandum, assured that the above serious issues will be addressed. The party will strongly raise the issue in Parliament and other national forums, he said, adding that the party is fully committed to protecting the rights of the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir.
