GDC Kathua organizes Inter-College Elocution Competition on Road Safety

KATHUA, Feb 28: Government Degree College, Kathua organized an Inter-College Elocution Competition under the banner of the Road Safety Club as part of the ongoing Road Safety Awareness Programme 2026. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 13 students, who spoke eloquently on various topics related to road safety.
The competition was conducted in an innovative format wherein participants were asked to pick chits on the spot under the broad theme "Road Safety". Each participant was given two minutes to prepare and four minutes to present their views. The topics ranged from responsible driving, dangers of over-speeding, drunk driving, use of mobile phones while driving, helmet and seatbelt awareness, to the role of youth in promoting road safety. The participants displayed confidence, clarity of thought, and deep concern for the growing issue of road accidents in society.
The event was adjudged by a distinguished panel of judges comprising Dr. Yash Pal Sharma, Head, Department of Urdu; Prof. Sandeep Choudhary, Associate Professor, Department of English; and Dr. Jagmohan, Head, Department of Hindi. The judges appreciated the participants for their awareness, articulation, and commitment to spreading the message of road safety. They emphasized the importance of disciplined behaviour on roads and encouraged students to act as ambassadors of road safety in their communities.
Speaking on the occasion, the principal of the college, Dr. Manohar Lal, lauded the efforts of the Road Safety Club for organizing meaningful activities that sensitize students towards responsible citizenship. He remarked that road safety is not merely a regulatory matter but a moral responsibility of every individual. He urged students to strictly adhere to traffic rules and inspire others to do the same.
The Convenor of the Road Safety Club, Dr. Neelima Gupta, expressed her gratitude to the Principal, judges, faculty members, and participants for making the programme a success. She highlighted that such awareness initiatives are crucial in fostering a culture of safety and accountability among youth. She reiterated the club's commitment to organizing more activities aimed at spreading awareness and reducing road mishaps.
Senior faculty members Prof. Neelam Bhagat and Prof. Ravinder Kour, along with other committee members of the Road Safety Club, were present on the occasion and witnessed the event.
The programme was preceeded by Prof. Supreet Kour Bali and followed by a formal vote of thanks by Prof. Meenakshi Assistant Professor BBA, appreciating the valuable contribution of the judges, participants, faculty, and organizing committee members in making the event impactful and successful.
