| Police intensifies crackdown on bovine smuggling: 250 bovines rescued, 38 arrested | | | Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Mar 2: District Police Udhampur continued its sustained and focused drive against bovine smuggling during the months of January and February 2026, reaffirming its firm commitment to curb illegal activities in the district. During this period, 34 cases related to bovine smuggling were registered, resulting in the rescue of 250 bovines from unlawful transportation attempts. As part of stringent enforcement measures 39 persons were arrested/detained, including 38 individuals arrested in bovine smuggling cases, while 01 habitual offender was booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA). Further, 28 vehicles used in the commission of bovine smuggling offences were seized. In a major financial crackdown, moveable properties linked with bovine smuggling cases were attached under Section 107(5) BNSS. The attached properties include 02 vehicles (Tata Mobile and Tanker) with a combined attachment value of ?50 lacs, aimed at dismantling the financial network of habitual offenders. District Police Udhampur reiterates its zero-tolerance policy against bovine smuggling and appeals to the public to cooperate and share credible information to help eliminate this illegal practice. |
