Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Mar 2: Reinforcing its commitment to inclusive development, J&K Bank has launched 'Project Samarth' - a CSR initiative for the welfare and empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). For implementation of the project, the Bank today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO).
Notably, ALIMCO is a Schedule 'C', Mini-Ratna Category II Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Department of Empowerment of PwDs, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (GoI). ALIMCO has over five decades of experience and expertise in manufacturing and distributing scientifically designed assistive devices.
General Manager (CSR) Mohammad Muzaffar Wani presided over the brief signing ceremony at the Bank's corporate headquarters, wherein by DGM (CSR) Hafeeza Rahim signed the MoU on behalf of the Bank and Incharge Mohali Centre Ishvinder Singh put in his signatures representing ALIMCO.
Speaking on the occasion, GM (CSR) Mohammad Muzaffar Wani said, "Aligned with our CSR vision, 'Project Samarth' reflects the Bank's unwavering commitment to inclusive and sustainable development. Through our partnership with ALIMCO, we seek to restore mobility, dignity, and self-reliance to hundreds of deserving beneficiaries in J&K and the rest of the country."
"Under the project, duly identified Persons with Disabilities and senior citizens from economically weaker sections will be provided high-quality assistive devices - including artificial limbs, wheelchairs, tricycles, hearing aids and orthotic supports - free of cost, thereby enabling them to lead more independent and fulfilling lives", he added.
Under the project, customized assistive and prosthetic support will be provided to over 2800 beneficiaries from across five districts of J&K - Rajouri, Anantnag, Srinagar, Jammu and Baramulla - besides Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru in rest of the country. The initiative will be implemented through assessment and distribution camps in coordination with district administrations, with ALIMCO's technical experts ensuring proper fitting and user training.
Through this initiative, the Bank further strengthens its CSR outreach by promoting accessibility, equality and improved quality of life for thousands of persons with disabilities in J&K and rest of the country.
