Become Job Creators, Not Seekers
3/5/2026 10:51:56 PM
Jammu and Kashmir Government has been calling on youth to become job creators rather than job seekers.
The leadership has quite often reiterated that everyone cannot get a government job and the youth have to look towards becoming entrepreneurs so that they can lead from the front.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah while addressing the Startup Outreach Programme in Jammu highlighted the immense potential of agriculture and allied sectors in J&K. He spoke about initiatives such as the Jammu & Kashmir Competitiveness Improvement of Agriculture and Allied Sectors Project (JKCIP) that are playing a crucial role in nurturing a vibrant startup ecosystem and promoting innovation-driven enterprises in Jammu and Kashmir.
It has become amply clear that tourism only doesn’t drive J&K’s economy. Agriculture and the allied sectors have big contribution towards building the region’s financial strength.
In a region blessed with fertile land, diverse agro-climatic conditions, and rich natural resources, agriculture can become a powerful engine of entrepreneurship and innovation.
The concept of agripreneurship is particularly relevant in this context. With the right support systems—such as access to credit, training, technology, and market connectivity—young people can turn traditional farming into profitable enterprises. Startups focusing on organic produce, high-value crops, cold storage chains, food packaging, and digital agricultural services can significantly enhance productivity and incomes in rural areas.
Equally important is the role of mentorship and institutional support. Government agencies, financial institutions, universities, and industry stakeholders must work together to create an ecosystem where innovative ideas can flourish. When young entrepreneurs are provided with guidance, infrastructure, and financial backing, they gain the confidence to take calculated risks and build successful ventures.
Horticulture, dairy farming, fisheries, food processing, and floriculture offer immense opportunities for young entrepreneurs willing to think creatively and invest their energies in productive ventures.
Encouraging youth to become job creators is not merely an economic strategy; it is a transformative vision for the future of Jammu and Kashmir. A thriving entrepreneurial culture can generate employment, strengthen local economies, and inspire a new generation to believe in their own potential.
If this spirit of innovation is nurtured with consistent policy support and public participation, the youth of Jammu and Kashmir will not only secure their own futures but also emerge as the driving force behind the region’s long-term prosperity.
