Committees constituted to enforce ban on smoking

Srinagar, May 29- To ensure ban on smoking and enforcement of the Indian Tobacco Act, 2003 in Jammu and Kashmir, the Health and Medical Education Department today constituted State/District Level Committees.
On the eve of the World No Tobacco Day to be observed on May, 31 directions have been passed to all the District Magistrates to constitute squads for conducting surprise inspections in all public places such as educational Institutions, hospitals, restaurants, Bus Stands and Government undertaking/corporations offices in their respective districts for enforcement of section-4 of the Indian Tobacco Act.
Under the Act, a fine amounting to Rs. 200 shall be imposed and penal action initiated on individuals who are found violating the said Act.
