| Joint Indo-Pak mechanism against terrorism at test | | | The ink of agreement signed at Hawana by Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and Pak President Pervez Musharraf for involving joint mechanismby the two countries to tackle terrorism has not yet dried that chinks have started appearing in implementation of the decision. By conveying concerns in Pakistan over India sharing intelligence inputs about Bloachistan, in a press briefing at New York, Pervez Musharraf has made a crude attempt to equate India with Pakistan as the victim as well as sponsor of terrorism in each other's country. Musharraf has given an oblique hint of perception in Pakistan of Bloachistan upraising having Indian links, which is a very unhealthy developments far as India is concern and will go to strengthened the hands of opponents of this deal. On the other hand the startling revelation made by an electronic media channel yesterday about Mumbai police having found concrete evidence of July 11, serial train blasts in the city having been master minded by Al-Qaeda and executed by Lakshre-e-Toiba, with close Pak links and the terrorists accomplishing the mayhem having got training in POK and that some of those involved in the carnage have close links with the perpetrators of 9/11terrorists strike in the USA, if verified, has the potential to wreck the deal. It will at least put the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh further in defensive, with the opponents of the deal getting a new stick to beat him with. The BJP, which has already started mobilizing public opinion and launching a campaign against Manmohan-Musharraf accord, will put to question the wisdom of joint mechanism by India and Pakistan in sharing intelligence inputs as well as joint operations by the two countries, one being the victim and other as sponsor of terrorism. The further disclosure by the channel that the Mumbai police was already in possession of vital information through the confessional statements of some persons arrested in the case, about the contours of Mumbai blasts, providing ample hint of the involvement of Pak intelligence agency, ISI, but the terrorist activities in India, with wide and dangerous implication in the days to come. There is also a view point that bringing in of Al-Qaeda into the Mumbai blasts is an attempt to absolve Pakistan of its responsibility, on the ground that Al-Qaeda is not under Pak control and that Pakistan, in collaboration with USA has been already fighting against this dreaded international terrorist out fit. In that case involving of a joint mechanism by India and Pakistan to meet the menace is justified. |
