| Inter- school elocution competition held in Kathua | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Kathua, May 29- The Society for Protection of Peace, Environment, Human Rights and Social Health (SPEHRSH), an NGO, organized an inter- school elocution competition on the topic “Role of Media in Democracy” at Rainbow Play way school, here today. District Information Officer, Kathua, Mridhu Slathia was the chief guest on the occasion while Chairman, Rainbow group of institutions, Kapil Dev Sharma was the guest of honour. Sixteen students of eight schools participated in the competition and read out their writings on the topic. Ramnik Verma, (10th class) of Rainbow Higher Secondary School bagged first position in the competition while 2nd position was secured by 10th class student Diksha of Shiva Public High School. The third slot was held by Pawanpreet Singh of Kids Heaven Convent School. President and Secretary SPEHRSH, Manuj Kesar and S. Harijinder Singh also spoke on the occasion and threw light on the topic and also highlighted the activities of the organization for the last three years. The Chief Guest gave away prizes to the first three position holders in the competition. Speaking on the occasion Mridhu Slathia urged upon the students to take active part in extra curricular activities. She appreciated the efforts of SPEHRSH organization to disseminate awareness regarding Human Rights and other social issues. She said that such functions play vital role in providing plate form for the budding students to express their views. She said that Media plays a big role in the democracy as it is the fourth pillar of democracy.
