Srinagar, May 29- Taking a thorough review of the functioning of the Forest Minister at a meeting of the officers, the Minister for Forests, Mian Altaf Ahmad has impressed upon the officers for strengthening the Forest Protection Force, besides improving the checking system and devising latest mechanism, by virtue of which the menace of timber smuggling is minimized and eliminated in the long run. He also called upon the officers of Forest Department, Forest Protection Force and SFC for maintaining effective coordination so that the objectives and targets fixed for the department are achieved. While reviewing the functioning of SFC, the Minister said that there is dire need for rationalization of the existing policy. He issued instructions for reduction of pressure on the forests of the state adding that a comprehensive policy for encouraging the sale of imported timber should be examined and accordingly a policy should be framed which benefits the general masses.
