| Arti to head Tenzing Norgay Adventure Club | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 29: To commemorate the first ascent of Mount Everest, the highest peak on earth, on 29th May,1953 by Sherpa Tenzing Norgay of India and Sir Edmund Hillary of New Zealand, Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, Jammu formed an adventure club under the name and style of Tenzing Norgay Adventure Club, Jammu. Arti Sharma, one of the directors of the school and a sport climbing judge of the state was unanimously elected as president who nominated Principal of the school, Pooja Sharma as the secretary and Satish Bhan as the treasurer of the club. Others nominated to the various posts included Savita Khajuria as vice president and Neha Dutta as joint secretary. Poonam Mishra, Retesh, Bhavani Pridikshina Pandita, Himani Sharma and Prafulata Bhat were nominated to the executive body. General secretary, Tawi Trekkers J&K and a national judge in Sport Climbing, Ram Khajuria has agreed to be the advisor while Sumit Khajuria, a senior mountaineer of the state was nominated as technical advisor of the club. The club aims at promoting trekking, rock climbing, mountaineering, sport climbing and other allied activities amongst the students of the school. Since the school has a 40ft high sport climbing wall in its premises it has plans to promote the game in a big way and to produce a number of national climbers within the next 2-3 years.
