Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 19: Persistent rainfall lashed Jammu on Thursday, bringing a sudden chill back to the region. The showers, which began around 10 a.m., continued steadily till evening, with light to moderate rain recorded across several parts of the city. Accompanied by cold winds, the weather disrupted normal life and led to a noticeable dip in temperatures.
According to the Meteorological Department, the wet spell is likely to persist across the region, including Jammu and Srinagar, over the next 24 hours. Higher-altitude areas may also witness fresh snowfall. A yellow alert has been issued for Friday, with forecasts indicating moderate to heavy rainfall in some areas and snowfall in parts of the Kashmir Valley.
The prevailing weather conditions have heightened the risk of landslides and rockfalls in mountainous regions. Authorities have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in vulnerable high-altitude zones.
Farmers have been urged to suspend agricultural activities until March 20 and resume work only after March 21, keeping in view the adverse conditions.
The weather shift has also led to a sharp fall in temperatures, with Jammu recording a drop of around 7 degrees Celsius in maximum temperature, while Srinagar witnessed a decline of 6 to 7 degrees. The Meteorological Department has advised residents and travellers to remain cautious and stay updated with the latest weather advisories.
