| Leopard claims another life in Rajouri district | | | Early Times Reporter
RAJOURI | SEPT 24
Maneater Leopard claimed another victim today in forest area of Thanamandi of Rajouri district while a woman of village Gunai of Nowshera fell victim yesterday.
According to reports a 16 year boy identified as Shahjehan son of Mohammed Sadiq of Thanamandi had gone to the fields for natural call and the man- eater leopard suddenly appeared there and pounced upon the boy and took his life and carried the body to a nearby forests. After a long search the mauled body of the boy was recovered from the forests.
In a similar incident the Leopard claimed the life of Krishna Devi of Gunai in Nowshera yesterday when the deceased had gone to the field to fetch fodder for her cattle. She was spotted by a villager while being carried away by the man-eater leopard towards the Gunai forests. When the villagers rushed to rescue her, neither the leopard nor the woman was seen. Later, her mauled body was found from the forest.
The leopard has created a terror in Rajouri district where over a dozen people have been attacked and several animals killed by the leopard.
In July last, the man-eater had killed a middle aged woman and earlier also it had killed three persons including a school going boy besides a dozen of cattle of adjoining villages Over half a dozen, others have been injured by the leopard during the last two months in the area.
The Wild Life Protection Department and the district administration have failed to protect the lives of the innocent people, as they have not been able to either trace out the leopard or kill the man-eater. |
