| PK stresses official recognition of continual genocide and structural remedies following LG's statement | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 25: Convenor of Panun Kashmir Dr. Agnishekhar and Chairman Tito Ganju today jointly welcomed the Lieutenant Governor's candid acknowledgment of the systemic injustice faced by Kashmiri Pandits, describing it as "a significant recognition of a deeper and continual civilisational failure." Both leaders stated that the Lieutenant Governor's commitment to ensure justice, employment, recognition, and support reflects what Panun Kashmir has consistently maintained, that the suffering of Kashmiri Pandits is not episodic but part of a continual genocide, marked by sustained neglect, denial, and marginalisation. "The admission that Kashmiri Pandits were erased from collective memory and abandoned by the system is not merely about the past. It is an acknowledgment of a continuing process. This constitutes a continual genocide, sustained through institutional neglect and societal indifference," they said. They emphasized that the Lieutenant Governor's reference to a "civilisational failure" aligns with the concept of Jatividhwans, a comprehensive and ongoing destruction of a people's physical, cultural, and economic existence. Referring to the Lieutenant Governor's remarks on harassment and the inversion of justice, Dr. Agnishekhar and Ganju noted that these were not isolated aberrations but structural manifestations of a prolonged breakdown. "This civilisational assault has been perpetrated on Kashmiri Pandits, where the victim was turned into a burden, while those linked to terror ecosystems were allowed to become beneficiaries. This inversion of justice defines the continuum of genocide we are dealing with," they asserted. They further stated that the questions raised about societal complicity must lead to concrete and institutional corrective measures rooted in an honest recognition of this continuum. In this context, both leaders reiterated Panun Kashmir's demand for the immediate enactment of the Genocide Bill 2020, urging the Lieutenant Governor to take up the matter with the Central Government. They noted that the bill provides a comprehensive legal framework addressing the physical, cultural, and economic dimensions of genocide, including its continual nature. "The Genocide Bill 2020 is designed to move beyond acknowledgment and provide enforceable mechanisms for justice, restitution, and prevention. Without recognizing the continual nature of genocide, remedies will remain inadequate," they said. They further asserted that the carving out of a separate homeland for genocide victims and survivors is a natural and necessary outcome of this historical and continuing injustice. "A separate homeland is the natural demand of genocide victims and survivors. It is rooted in the right to secure existence and dignity. More importantly, it creates a structural model for preventing genocides elsewhere, demonstrating that justice must be institutional and not merely symbolic," they added. Reaffirming their position, Panun Kashmir emphasized that justice must move beyond symbolic recognition to institutional safeguards that address the full continuum of suffering and ensure that such a civilisational failure is never repeated. |
