| MCM promotes environmental consciousness and career awareness through dual academic initiatives | | | Early Times Report CHANDIGARH, Mar 27: Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women reaffirmed its commitment to holistic education and student engagement by organising two significant academic events- marking World Sparrow Day and hosting an expert seminar on Clinical Research and Pharmacovigilance. To commemorate World Sparrow Day, the Department of Zoology, in collaboration with MCM Eco-Club 'Parivesh' under the aegis of MCM Vigyan Manch, organised an Extempore Competition on the theme 'Saving Sparrows for a Healthier Tomorrow'. Sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology and Renewable Energy, Chandigarh Administration, the event aimed to sensitise students about the alarming decline in sparrow populations and their ecological significance. The participants spoke on diverse aspects such as habitat loss, urbanisation, pollution, and the role of community participation in conserving biodiversity. Their well-articulated perspectives reflected a deep sense of environmental responsibility and awareness. In another initiative, the Departments of Zoology and Botany organised a seminar on 'Exploring Clinical Research and Pharmacovigilance: Pathways and Prospects in India'. The session featured Sonal Sharma, Centre Head and Senior Career Counsellor at Anovus Institute of Clinical Research, Chandigarh, as the resource person. Ms. Sharma delivered an insightful talk on the expanding domain of clinical research, highlighting its growing relevance in India. She elaborated on drug development processes, clinical trials, regulatory frameworks, and the critical role of pharmacovigilance in monitoring adverse drug reactions and ensuring patient safety. She also guided students on essential skills, certifications, internships, and diverse career opportunities in this dynamic sector. Officiating Principal Neena Sharma lauded the efforts of the organisers and appreciated the enthusiastic participation of students in both events. She emphasised the importance of environmental stewardship and highlighted clinical research as a vital and evolving field that offers immense opportunities while contributing significantly to public health and sustainable development. |
