EARLY TIMES REPORT
Udhampur, May 30- Despite up gradation of Udhampur Town Area Committee to Municipality, Udhampur city still presents dismal picture of neglect courtesy Government apathy. Seventeen wards of Udhampur Municipality which were earlier facing sanitations and other problems are still telling their pathetic tale.
People here allege that entire city, mostly the public places, have turned into a garbage dump. They allege that bad roads and ill sanitation in lanes and drains has created un- hygienic conditions in most of the areas and the hot weather conditions have worsened the living condition of the general public.
Talking to Early Times, social workers Parvesh Kumar and Vikram Salthia said that the up gradation of Town Area Committee to Municipality has not brought any change in the living conditions here. They said if you have a chance to visit court area you can see that huge dumps of garbage lying open near the Deputy Commissioner’s office and District Court complex where thousands of people visit daily for their routine work..
They alleged that if this is the condition of places under the nose of administration you can better access condition of other places in city .They also alleged that traffic congestion created by the mini buses has given rise to the frequent accidents at the Salathia Chowk. The stench emanating out of the garbage near Sabzi Mandi makes it nightmarish walk for passers by. Condition of lanes and drains is in a mess and safaikarmcharis assigned the job to clean the area visit after weeks in some localities, they alleged.
Local businessman near Government Women College Rakesh Gupta said that said that there are 17 wards under the Udhampur Municipality but in most of the localities there are no garbage bins.
When the Municipal authorities were contacted in this regard they said they are facing shortage of funds and manpower and are managing affairs with the resources they are having from last several years. They added that despite request to higher ups nothing has been done so far.
