Measures discussed to prevent forest fires in Reasi areas

REASI, MAY 30 (INFO)- Keeping in view the increasing fire incidents in forests falling under the jurisdiction of Reasi district and to sort out various corrective measures to completely control such fire incidents in future, the District Development Commissioner, Reasi, Mr. Sanjeev Verma convened a meeting of officers of forest and education department here yesterday evening.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi, Mr. Anand Jain, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Katra, Tehsildar, Tehsildar (HQ Assistant) Chief Planning Officer, Divisional Forest Officer, Chief Education Officer, Assistant Director Fire Services, Principals, Zonal Education Officers from education department and Range Officers of various forest compartments participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, Mr. Verma enquired from the officers of forest department the cause of forest fires which has almost destroyed all the green gold property in recent fire incidents in many forests of the district. DFO and other Range Officers apprised the DDC that people of nearby forest areas often seem involved in such fire incidents for their mere personal interests. However, many corrective measures have been initiated to control over such fire incidents in future at all the areas but there is dire need to create awareness among the general public about the safety of forests and it could be possible only by initiating some bold steps.
The DDC asked the DFO and concerned Range Officer to lodge FIRs against the culprits who seems involved in such fire incidents. Disaster Management Plan was also discussed with the officers of education department and Mr. Verma exhorted upon the officers to educate the school children about the safety of forests.
SSP assured the DDC that stern action against the suspicious persons would be initiated and the culprits shall be bought in lime light and action under rules will be taken against them.
To watch over the fire incidents, a committee comprising of Tehsildar, Range Officers, Block Development Officer and Village Forest Committees has been formed.
