| J&K to lend Delhi 100 MW of power in summer against 110 MW in winter | | WEATHER BARTER | | CHAMAN KAUL JAMMU: After New Delhi’s failure to procure the required capacity of electricity from Damodar Valley Corporation, the Union Capital has all eyes towards Jammu and Kashmir which will provide 100MW power to it for the summer months of June, July, August and September. Against this state will get 110 MW in the months of winter to fulfill its requirements. According to official sources Delhi requires near about 600MW for the three to four months of summer of which merely 200 MW power supply is available with the Government of Delhi. To procure a part of its requirement J and K will supply uninterrupted 100MW electric supply round the clock from June 1st. “To deal with the scarcity of electricity in the crucial months of winter, the viable method of power banking is being brought in the practice by the Power Development Department” said In-charge Superintendent with additional charge of Chief Engineer PDD Jammu Ajay Gupta. He said during the winter months of November, December, January and February about 110 MW will be supplied by Delhi to Jammu and Kashmir, including interest payable, which enables PDD to coupe up with crucial months of winter. When asked whether the banking system could affect the local supply Gupta replied that there is sufficient power stock to feed the local supply without any problems. Weather has to play an important role in generating, consumption as well as in usage of the electricity and the hope of early monsoon definitely could be a provider of sigh of relief for Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir a technical expert of electronics suggested. “As per the agreement done under Indus Water Treaty Jammu and Kashmir State has to abide by it by contributing a share of power to Northern Grid despite considering own needs but the agreement needs to be amended in the larger interest of the state, as Punjab’s Bakhara dam categorically refuses to provide the electric supply to Jammu and Kashmir by saying that they did not have sufficient power for their own use. So, it has become mandatory for the people at the helm of affairs to make amendments in the agreement made at the time of its constitution” said Bari Brahmana Industrial Association President Anil Suri. “I don’t know what the technical terms of the system are but what I know is that we are paying dues in time as per the meter readings and still we face untimely power cuts which should not be there. Government should ensure uninterrupted power supply to the citizen of the entire state including industries and other emergency oriented places like hospitals, government offices, and technical institutions as every thing is now on line and the power supply is life line for all those” said Sham Sunder a resident of Kachi Chawni.
