New Delhi, May 30: Congress appears to be toying with the idea of fielding a woman for the post of Speaker in the Lok Sabha. The names of Girja Vyas and Meira Kumar figure as possible candidates for the post.
Discussions about fielding a woman for the post dominated a meeting of top leadership of Congress. The party initially appeared to be planning to field Kishore Chandra Deo, a senior Congress MP from Andhra Pradesh. But now, sources have indicated that Deo may not be finalised for the post.
The final decision is to be made by the core committee of the Congress.
