| CAPD installs mobile counter of k oil | | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER JAMMU | SEPT 24
Department of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) for the first time has installed a mobile counter of kerosene oil for its distribution amongst the inhabitants of Rajeev Nagar, a slum area of Jammu city today. The counter was started in presence of MLA Raman Bhalla, Director CAPD Jammu Vinod Koul and senior officers and inspectors of the department including members of the NGOs. The kerosene oil was distributed amongst the needy persons of the area at the fixed scale and rate of Rs.9.40 per litre. A large number of residents of Rajeev Nagar and its adjoining areas enthusiastically came out and obtained the k oil smoothly by forming queues. And the inhabitants of the area welcomed the step taken by the department. The CAPD Department has decided to install such like mobile counters in other slum areas of the city in future also. The main aim of organizing and installing such mobile counters is to make available the above facility at the doorsteps of the genuine people belonging to below poverty line. This step shall also minimize the general complaints of non-availability of kerosene oil thereby ensuring its proper utility by the bonafide persons. It is worthwhile to mention here that a number of measures steps have been taken by the department to streamline the Public Distribution System, i.e new ration cards have been introduced by which pilferage will be checked/controlled to a large extent. These new ration cards have been distributed in Doda district and for other districts, the same are under printing. The new ration cards have a coupon system and the dealers will be bound to obtain a proper receipt of issued commodity from the rationees. This system shall further make our Public Distribution System more transparent. Besides, sufficient foodgrains have been stored in different areas to make Public Distribution System smooth. A wide publicity has also been given in the print-media about the availability of food-grains and scale of ration applicable. The department has already dumped 50 percent food-grains required in the areas, which remain cut-off during winners. The balance 50 percent of dumping is expected to be completed by the end of October 2006. |
