| Reliance officials, vendors held for SIM card bungle | | | SUMIT SHARMA Jammu, May 30: The Crime Branch, Jammu, claimed to have busted a nexus between militants and some operators/vendors of Reliance Communications –a new cell telephony provider in the state –for allegedly providing SIM cards to the militants. Crime Branch sources said that their sleuths in Jammu busted the nexus between militants and Reliance company vendors who had issued SIM cards on fake verifications to anti social elements and in this regard dozens of the retailers, distributors and Reliance officers were arrested by Crime Branch Jammu with the recoveries of fake stamps of Tehsildars, Commissioner, Assistant Commissioners, Chief Medical Officers, Directors of different departments and senior officers of Police force were made from their possession. When contacted to SSP Crime Branch JP Singh he said that investigation of the case is on. The nexus came to limelight only when SOG apprehended some Over Ground Workers and militants and from their possession recovered SIM cards of Reliance. Crime Branch conducted raids in retailers shop in different areas of the Jammu city including Sainik Colony, Bakshi Nagar, Rehari and other vicinity of the city and came to know that the addresses of the Reliance subscribers are fake and do not exists on ground. Various SIMs were issued to different persons on one person documents. Reliance officers,distributors and retailers bearing fake stamps on different photos of the different persons embedded on the Reliance forms made their fake identity and submitted the same in the Head Office of the Reliance,Bahuplaza and got the SIM cards issued. Crime Branch also conducted raid in the Bahuplaza and seized records, lacs of SIM cards and other documents of the subscribers. The questioning of the arrested persons are on in the Crime Branch office till later hours to penetrate into the racket.
