Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 7: SputnikPro organised an exclusive workshop titled "How to Use AI to Create Audio-Visual Content" for the students of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu.
Speaking on the occasion, Head of the Department, Prof. Dushyant Kumar Rai, stated that the session effectively highlighted the practical workflows used by international news agencies like Sputnik. He emphasized that the workshop reinforced the importance of combining AI tools with strong journalistic ethics, accuracy, and human creativity. He further expressed hope for more such engagements in the future.
He added that such initiatives align with the vision of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Umesh Rai, to promote industry-academia collaboration and prepare students for the rapidly evolving media landscape through technology integration.
Earlier, former Head of the Department, Prof. Garima Gupta, remarked that the workshop was highly relevant and timely. She noted that it provided students with valuable insights into emerging AI technologies and their application in journalism, adding that such collaborations are essential for preparing the next generation of media professionals. The session was delivered by Pavel Zaytsev, Traffic Manager, Sputnik News Agency and Radio, and focused on equipping journalism students with practical knowledge of Artificial Intelligence tools in modern news production, including AI-generated text, audio, images, and video avatars.
Participating students appreciated the informative content and interactive discussions on AI applications, ethical considerations, and the need for AI literacy alongside core journalistic skills. They also suggested organising future sessions in hybrid mode with live demonstrations and a greater focus on Indian regional languages.
The session was followed by an interactive question-and-answer segment, during which students raised several queries regarding the changing nature of journalism, particularly in the context of the advent of Artificial Intelligence.
The workshop was moderated by Olga Dycheva, Head of Sputnik Hub in New Delhi, and coordinated by Yashpal Dasgotra from Sputnik. Dr. Pardeep Singh Bali and Dr. Kumerjit Chajgotra, Assistant Professors, Department of Journalism and Media Studies, coordinated the workshop on behalf of the Department.
Dr. Ravia Gupta, Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism and Media Studies, delivered the welcome remarks, while Dr. Ramiyan Bhardwaj, Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism and Media Studies, presented the vote of thanks.
