Chandigarh Gears Up for 8th Poshan Pakhwada
4/8/2026 9:54:41 PM
Early Times Report
CHANDIGARH, Apr 8: Under Mission Saksham Anganwadi and POSHAN 2.0, behavioural change at both individual and community levels remains a cornerstone in achieving the vision of a Suposhit Bharat. In this direction, the Jan Andolan has evolved into the POSHAN Abhiyaan, aimed at improving nutritional outcomes across the country.
So far, 15 Jan Andolan campaigns-including 8 Poshan Maah and 7 Poshan Pakhwada-have been successfully organized, significantly enhancing awareness nationwide. In the Union Territory of Chandigarh, over 7 lakh outreach activities have been conducted in convergence with various line departments, reflecting a strong, coordinated, and multi-sectoral approach towards improving nutrition and public health outcomes.
To plan the celebration of the 8th Rashtriya Poshan Pakhwada, a preparatory meeting was convened today, i.e., April 8, 2026, under the chairpersonship of Anuradha S. Chagti, CSS, Secretary, Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, Chandigarh Administration, with participation from all line departments of U.T. Chandigarh.
This year's central theme, "Maximizing Brain Development in the First Six Years of Life," highlights the critical importance of early childhood care and development. The initiative will focus on the following key sub-themes:
oMother and child nutrition
oEarly stimulation for brain development (0-3 years)
oPlay-based education in early years (3-6 years)
oRole of parents and community in minimizing screen time
oStrengthening Anganwadis through community participation
During the meeting, Chagti urged all departments to actively contribute by organizing a wide range of nutrition-focused and theme-based activities. She emphasized strengthening community engagement and empowering both beneficiaries and the wider public.
It was further decided to conduct Expert Panel Sessions through the POSHAN Helpline (1800-1800-2244) from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM throughout the Poshan Pakhwada. These sessions will enable citizens to directly interact with renowned AYUSH experts and seek guidance on nutrition, wellness, and preventive healthcare.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment from all departments to ensure the successful implementation of activities during the Poshan Pakhwada and to further intensify efforts towards improving nutritional outcomes in the Union Territory.
