| Hoteliers, others meet Tourism Minister Yatra issues | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, June 1: Various hotel, restaurant and bar association in a meeting with the tourism and culture minister, Nawang Rigzin Zora in connection with the forth coming Amarnath yatra assured him that steps have been taken to make yatra a successful one. President of the Jammu hotel, restaurant and bar association H.S. Anand said that hoarding and banners will be displayed from Lakhanpur to Banihal to welcome yatriees, beside prominent buildings will be illuminated. A 30% on room tariff will be given during the yatra period. In the meeting it was brought to the notice of minister that the pilgrims coming through road are facing lot of problems as their vehicle papers are checked after every 40-50 Kms. It was suggested that their vehicle paper should be checked at Lakhanpur only and a certificate to be issued by the traffic department with the coordination of tourism department, regarding the same so that they can freely travel in the region, this will not apply for security checks and the minister has agreed for the same and will take up the matter with DG traffic/ police. The hotel & restaurant association, Katra apprised the meeting, that at present the reservation for the yatra registration can be done from J&K bank counters only and that too from 3pm till 6pm which is not quite sufficient the minister was requested to kindly look into the matter and open more reservation counters for the yatra at Jammu and Katra also. Jora referring to the great potential that pilgrim tourism offers in Jammu said that even if 10-15 percent of the 72 lakh visitors visiting Vaishnodevi are encouraged to tour tourist destinations like Patnitop, Mansar, Surinsar, Budha Amarnath, Nagli Sahib etc it will give a boost to the tourism industry. It was decided in the meeting that during the yatra, Jammu hotels and restaurants, Katra hotels will provide dogri cuisines on reasonable rates. The president of chamber of commerce and industries, Jammu apprised that he has taken the matter with the president of chamber of commerce and industries, Kashmir regarding welcome of the yatries and he has assured him that right from Banihal till Phalgam the yatries will be given a rousing welcome and will be providing all the facilities required for the smooth flow of Shri Amarnath Ji yatra.
